IPL Auction 2022 Results

The ten franchises paid over $5.52 billion to bolster their squads during the recent two-day IPL 2022 super auction in Bengaluru, which saw top Indian, and abroad alternatives collect considerable money. The top pick was Ishan Kishan, who was repurchased for $15.25 crore by the Mumbai Indians. In addition, Deepak Chahar and Shreyas Iyer were notable purchases, receiving 14 and 12.25 crore, respectively.

While most players are ecstatic when purchased for a high price in the IPL auction, Kishan admitted that he was concerned as his price began to rise. MI was bound to pursue me. However, that wasn’t the most concerning part. The escalating cost was unsettling since MI needed to save money to create the remainder of the team. I wasn’t the only one who was affected.

Kishan was a member of the Indian side that thrashed the West Indies 3-0 in a T20I series recently. In all three games, the southpaw opened the innings but failed to score runs at a scorching speed, which he is known for and what the team management expects from him.

The Mumbai Indians were the squad that raised the most eyebrows and created the most curiosity during the two auction days. Mumbai, which began the auction with a purse of INR 48 crores, had the second-largest remaining purse of INR 28 crores on Sunday. On the first day, they made their most significant purchase, Ishan Kishan, the most expensive buy of the auction and the second-highest bid for an Indian player in an IPL auction.

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings have stuck to their plan of repurchasing their core players and haven’t made many changes to the lineup that worked so well for them in the 2018-21 season. While they could not re-sign every player from last season, they could acquire quality individuals to ensure that their combination would not be harmed. Devon Conway is expected to fill the shoes of Faf Du Plessis, Shivam Dube, a more batting-oriented version of Shardul Thakur, and Adam Milne, a more refined version of Josh Hazlewood.

The Delhi Capitals were extremely busy throughout the battle, as they were eager to reclaim their core. They bid for Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin, and Kagiso Rabada, but they could not secure any of them because of their limited budget. However, the loss of Dhawan will not have a significant impact on them because they were able to get David Warner at a low cost.

Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine were among the four matchwinners retained by Kolkata Knight Riders in the auction. They may have also unearthed a prospective captain in Indian batter, Shreyas Iyer, who was the auction’s third-most expensive purchase.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s focus on bowlers at auctions may have resulted in a recurrence of an old weakness: a shortage of big names in the batting lineup. If Williamson misses even one game, SRH will be without a critical member of their top three.

Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj form a strong core for Royal Challengers Bangalore. They added several excellent possibilities during the auction, particularly in the bowling department. Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, and Wanindu Hasaranga are the anticipated starters, with Jason Behrendorff and David Willey serving as backups.

All three hitters, Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, were retained by the Rajasthan Royals. R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal were purchased for INR 11.5 crore. They have a formidable bowling combination with Trent Boult and Prasidh Krishna.

Punjab Kings, who had been mocked for failing at auctions and overspending on the wrong players for so long, were among the top performers this time. Few teams can match their hitting depth or plethora of power hitters. The presence of Shikhar Dhawan in the top order compensates for the loss of KL Rahul. In addition, Punjab has two of the most dangerous batsmen in Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone.

The Lucknow Super Giants arrived at the auction looking like one of the best-prepared teams, and they were the only ones to spend their whole bankroll. Overall, they appear to have covered all bases, with six international all-rounders. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock will open, Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya will bat in the middle order, and Mark Wood and Avesh will head the pace attack in their first-choice XI.

Gujarat Titans failed to win the auction despite possessing a trio of matchwinners in Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill. Instead, they spent a lot of money on Rahul Tewatia, who played in one of the most memorable IPL matches in history but hasn’t done much more with the bat or the ball since then.
