So let’s now look back at last year and re-live some of the highlights. The most successful team in IPL history, MI missed out on a top-fourth this season, winning seven games and losing seven but falling short of qualifying for the playoffs to KKR on run rate. MI had won four games and lost three when the IPL was suspended. However, their form deteriorated in the UAE leg, as their renowned batting failed to click in the first few games.

Out of their 14 matches, Punjab Kings won six and lost eight. The team was overly reliant on the top order, which was a recurring narrative. Mayank Agarwal scored 441 runs in 12 matches with four half-centuries, while KL Rahul scored 628 runs in 13 innings. Except for these two batsmen, none of their other batters scored more than 200 runs.

RR had another season of frustration, winning five and losing 9 of their 14 games. The Royals were dealt a significant setback when two of their key players, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, were ruled out. The loss of Archer badly harmed their bowling, as they were now without a strike bowler, and ultimately resulted in their demise.

SRH had a terrible IPL 2021 season, winning only three of their 14 games and finishing last. It was a dramatic drop from the previous season when SRH had made the playoffs. The SRH’s hopes were harmed by their inconsistency at the batting crease. The franchise was obliged to drop one of the most successful batters in IPL history due to David Warner’s poor play.

Despite having had some of the finest and most destructive T20 cricketers of all time in their team at one point or another, RCB is a perennial underachiever in the IPL. It was the same old storey this time as well. RCB were outplayed by KKR in the eliminator, with the same frailties resurfacing.

Before being eliminated in the playoffs, DC topped the league table, and it was another example of so close, yet so far, for the team. On the other hand, DC was unlucky in that they lost both the qualifier and the knockout match in the last over of a game that might have gone either way.

KKR came back spectacularly in the second part of the season to capture the fourth playoff position, defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru Delhi Capitals in the eliminators and the second qualifier, respectively, to go to the final before succumbing at the final hurdle. Venkatesh Iyer, who hit 370 runs in 10 innings, deserves a lot of credit for their second-half performance.

CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs to win their fourth IPL title. Because of many veterans in the squad, there was a lot of chatter about CSK’s old guard before the tournament started, but CSK ended up having the last laugh. CSK made a remarkable recovery after finishing 7th the previous season. Tata IPL Point Table 2022 will be placed above.
