What Does the Future Hold?

Since 2008, most of the world’s top cricketers have taken a break from international and domestic cricket to compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL), primarily between March and May. The IPL is the most popular cricket league globally, ranking sixth among all leagues. In 2010, the mega League became the first sporting event streamed live on YouTube. The brand value of the IPL was estimated to be $3.2 billion in 2014, and it’s been growing year on year ever since. The IPL has also shown to be an excellent link between brands and customers. It has been the ‘go-to’ event for firms launching new items over the years. Therefore, it is no wonder almost every broadcaster on the planet wants a piece of the action.

Mukesh Ambani’s company has formed a partnership to outbid entertainment behemoths Amazon.com Inc., Walt Disney Co., and Sony Group Corp. for television rights to the Indian Premier League. Bids are expected to top 400 billion rupees ($5.3 billion) in value. Amazon will enter the bidding war to improve its Amazon Prime sports offerings. Walt Disney is expected to bid, having acquired the event’s telecast rights through 2022 with the acquisition of Star. Sony is also expected to bid.

The bids will be presented to India’s Board of Control for Cricket, which will award the IPL streaming rights for five years beginning in 2023. The winner is expected to be announced at the end of March or the beginning of April. LAST YEAR, the IPL attracted 380 million viewers, and whoever gets telecast rights will almost certainly gain millions of additional subscribers in a fiercely competitive market. IPL 2022 broadcasters list is placed above.
