The TATA Women’s Premier League 2027 will be the fifth edition of the Women’s Indian Premier League. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the key dates for the WPL 2027 from 14 January to 7 February 2027 in Kochi.

The tournament is expected to feature five teams just like last time and the schedule and the other information for this will be released soon. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the 2026 edition after Mumbai Indians Women had clinched the Women’s Premier League 2025.

Last season, it was held entirely at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore after the 2026 edition was held in Mumbai at the CCI and DY Patil stadiums. Tickets for Women’s Premier League 2027 were sold on Bookmyshow .

BCCI offered free entry for women and girls to the stadium on a first-come-first-serve basis, while men could purchase Women’s IPL 2026 tickets for INR 100 and INR 400.

The first two editions of the tournament featured 22 matches among 5 teams. The top team directly advanced to the final, while the second and third-placed teams played in the Eliminator to decide the second finalist.

This format is expected to continue in 2027 as well but we will update that when we have more official information from the BCCI regarding this. Women’s IPL 2027 schedule, match timings, venue, team squads players list, live broadcast, streaming & telecast channel details are below .

WPL Teams Squads 2027

The updated squad list following the auction for all five teams in the WPL 2027 is presented below. These changes reflect the teams’ decisions to retain some players and release others.

Further updates to the squads were completed following the Women’s Premier League auction. The final squads of all WPL 2027 teams are placed below .

For now, these are the WPL squads from the 2026 edition.

TATA Women’s Premier League Schedule 2027

Schedule for the 2027 edition of the Women’s Premier League will be out soon.

The second edition of the tournament began on February 23 with the final played on March 17. And because the first three seasons (2023-25) were set to have 22 matches each, we could be looking for something similar in 2027 as well.

Each of the five teams will play the other twice (a total of 20 matches) in the league stage, followed by an Eliminator between the teams that finish second and third, and then a final between the winner of the Eliminator and the table-topper. Reports suggest that from the 2026 season, the women’s IPL will feature 33 or 34 matches.

WPL 2024 Player Auction – Key Highlights

The WPL squads for 2024 were announced following a one-day-long auction that took place on December 9.

Annabel Sutherland was bought by Delhi Capitals for a whopping price of INR 2 crore, while Gujarat Giants pouched Phoebe Litchfield for INR 1 crore.

Gujarat Giants would bring in Meghna Singh as well, bagging her for INR 30 lakh, which would be the same price that UP Warriorz would pay to buy the services of Danielle Wyatt. Royal Challengers Bangalore got in Georgia Wareham for INR 40 lakh.

Kashvee Gautam and Vrinda Dinesh became the stories of the auction with the former getting picked for INR 2 crore by Gujarat Giants while the latter getting paid INR 1.3 crore by UP Warriorz to make their team.

Interestingly, Chamari Athapaththu failed to make it through yet again and won’t be featuring in the WPL despite being one of the best batters in the world in this format. Deandra Dottin and Australia allrounder Kim Garth were also not selected by any of the teams even as Kathryn Bryce of Scotland, the only player from a non-Full Member side got a call-up by Gujarat Giants for INR 10 lakh.

Even Devika Vaidya missed out on what was one of the more strange calls.

Some of the other Indians who were picked at the second WPL auction included Veda Krishnamurthy (INR 30 lakh), S Meghana (INR 30 lakh),  Simran Bahadur (INR 30 lakh), Gouher Sultana (INR 30 lakh) and Tarannum Pathan (INR 10 lakh).

WPL 2027 Format

The format for the WPL 2027 will be the same as the previous two editions.

Each of the five teams in the competition will face off against the other four on two occasions. While the tournament won’t be technically played on a home and away basis, each game will be designated a home game and an away game for the two teams featuring in it.

At the end of the 20 league stage matches, the WPL 2027 will see three playoff games. The team finishing at the top of the points table will enter the final and will face the winner of the Eliminator game between the teams ranked second and third.

The Eliminator and the Final are expected to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Women’s Premier League 2027 Venues

As mentioned earlier, the 2024 edition of the WPL was held at two different venues – the Arun Jaitley Stadium (also called the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium) in Delhi and the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

This was after all its games were held in Mumbai in the 2023 season, at Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium .

Viacom 18 has acquired the global media rights for the Women’s IPL under a five-year contract beginning in 2023 for an amount of ₹951 crore. For the 2027 edition of the tournament, more information is expected but for now, the WPL 2027 broadcasting options are mentioned below.

All About WPL 2024

It was Royal Challengers Bangalore who ended their fans’ wait by clinching their maiden title in the WPL, defeating Delhi Capitals in the final.

Having struggled in the league stage of the competition, Royal Challengers Bangalore needed to win their final league stage game to qualify for the playoffs.

They did that in fine style on the back of an all-round showing by Ellyse Perry, overcoming the defending champion Mumbai Indians there.

And in the Eliminator, Bangalore trumped Mumbai Indians yet again, triggering a late collapse after Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed.

Royal Challengers Bangalore set up a final meeting against Delhi Capitals, in which they would show their ability to come back from any scenario yet again.

Delhi piled up 64/0 in the eighth over but a Shefali Varma wicket changed all that. Sophie Molineux and Shreyanka Patil combined to grab seven wickets as Delhi fell away to 113 all out.

In response, Bangalore took their time but lost only two wickets in their victory with three balls remaining.

Molineux won the player-of-the-match award while UP Warriorz’s Deepti Sharma was declared the player-of-the-tournament for her fine all-round showing.

All About WPL 2023

The first-ever edition of the Women’s Premier League held in 2023 was won by Mumbai Indians , who defeated Delhi Capitals in the final.

Delhi and Mumbai had earlier topped the points table with 12 points apiece, while UP Warriorz had finished third. As a result of this, Delhi Capitals made a direct entry into the final while Mumbai was forced to overcome the Warriorz in the Eliminator to join them.

Helped by Natalie Sciver-Brunt’s 38-ball 72 in the Eliminator, Mumbai piled up 182/4 from their 20 overs. Issy Wong then picked up 4/15 from her four overs to bowl UP out for 110.

In the final, Hayley Matthews finished with figures of 3/5 from four overs which was instrumental in restricting Delhi to 131/9 from their 20 overs. Sciver-Brunt was at it again, hammering the Delhi bowlers to all parts of the ground with her unbeaten 60 to help Mumbai get to the target in the final over.

WPL 2023 Player Auction – Key Highlights

Earlier, the auction for the first-ever season of the WPL was held on February 13, 2023, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. It was a highly anticipated event where 165 players went under the hammer, shaping the squads for the WPL season 1.

This diverse pool comprised 104 Indian and 61 overseas cricketers, including 15 from associate nations, offering a wide array of talent for the franchises to select from. Notable names such as Chamari Athapaththu, Deandra Dottin, and Shabnim Ismail were among the overseas talents, while Veda Krishnamurthy, S Meghana, Meghna Singh, and Devika Vaidya are the stand-out Indian players.

The auction saw the five franchises create strong squads for the tournament. Smriti Mandhana was the most expensive player after earning a bid of INR 3.4 crore from RCB.

Harmanpreet Kaur went to the Mumbai Indians for INR 1.8 crore, while the Delhi Capitals signed Jemimah Rodrigues and Meg Lanning . Gujarat Giants made their biggest purchase of INR 3.2 crore by signing Ashleigh Gardner , and the UP Warriorz got Sophie Ecclestone and Tahlia McGrath .

The Royal Challengers Bangalore team has a strong line-up with a wealth of experience, while the Mumbai Indians have a squad full of all-rounders, including Nat Sciver-Brunt as the most expensive buy in the auctions. Each team has a domestic or uncapped talent worth watching out for.
