Auction Activity for IPL 2024
Not much has happened in the KKR camp in the lead-up to the IPL 2024 auction. Gautam Gambhir has joined the Knight Riders though as a mentor.
They had hired Chandrakant Pandit as their new head coach last season and made a few trades in the transfer market at a cost of only 8 crores INR.
At the 2023 mini-auction, KKR had a budget of INR 7.05 crore and released most of their players while acquiring 8 Indian and 3 overseas players. They made some notable acquisitions which include Litton Das, Kulwant Khejroliya, Suyash Sharma, and Shakib Al Hasan.
KKR is facing a challenging start to the IPL 2024 season as they look to shrug off their seventh-spot finish from the previous year.
Nitish Rana has been appointed as the captain of KKR in Iyer’s absence. Kolkata’s primary strength was always their core group of players, who were perhaps the best in the league when healthy.
Russell remains one of the most dangerous T20 batsmen in the world, while Narine is a world-class all-rounder and IPL legend.
When you add in Shreyas Iyer (unavailable due to injury) and Shakib Al Hasan, KKR has some terrific sure-shot match-winners on their hands. There are opportunities for lesser-known players such as Nitish Rana and Mandeep Singh to make an impact, and for Shardul Thakur to lead the pace attack.
The major threat is the injury risk to Dre Russell and the weak death bowling.
This year, they will aim to be successful under the leadership of their new captain Nitish Rana. Key players Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, Umesh Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy will play a crucial role in the team’s success. IPL 2024 KKR player list is placed above;
What Happened in IPL 2023?
Kolkata Knight Riders did not have the greatest of starts to the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League as they fell to five defeats from their first seven matches.
While they added four more wins in the latter half of the season, the Knight Riders’ 12 points meant they could finish only seventh in the tournament and crashed out of the tournament, falling way short of the 16 points needed to make it through to the playoffs.
