With the addition of two new members to the existing family of eight – Lucknow Supergiant and Gujarat Titans, the IPL has reverted to the 2011 paradigm when the league welcomed two new clubs – Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
That means more teams were battling for quality players and the bidding wars certainly had some spice about them. However, the teams are confirmed, and the coaching staff have less than a month to mould these star-studded lineups into well-oiled machines. So let’s have a look at the confirmed team rosters:

Biggest Signings 2022
A total of 204 players were sold in two days, aggregating a sum of 551.7 crores, as ten teams were left with plenty to ponder as they attempted to build up a formidable squad. With that in mind, we thought we would look at some of the most expensive signings this season and briefly analyse why they perhaps went for so much money.
Ishan Kishan – Mumbai Indians – 15.25
In the high-profile event, the wicketkeeper-batter was the most costly buy. Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians both made bids for Ishan’s services, as the two teams competed for the left-handed batter’s services. However, Punjab withdrew at 7.50 crores, while Gujarat Titans fought back before withdrawing. As their penultimate challenger, the Sunrisers Hyderabad kept bidding for Kishan, but they had to give up hope once Ishan’s price tag surpassed the 15-crore level.
Deepak Chahar – Chennai Super Kings – 14.00
Chahar joined CSK in 2018 and has since played 58 IPL matches for the MS Dhoni-led club, taking 58 wickets at an economy rate of 7.70 in four seasons. In the PowerPlay overs, Chahar has been Dhoni’s most crucial bowler, making the most of his ability to swing the ball.
Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders – 12.25
Kolkata Knight Riders purchased the Mumbai batsman for a hefty INR 12.25 crores after the two-time IPL champions outsmarted Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans. Iyer can not only provide a middle-order bat for any squad, but he may also be a candidate for the managerial position.
Liam Livingstone – Punjab Kings – 11.50
After being sold to Punjab Kings for INR 11.50 crores, the England all-rounder became the most expensive overseas player in the IPL 2022 auction. Last year, he was crowned player of the tournament in the inaugural Men’s Hundred after hitting 348 runs for Birmingham Phoenix with a strike rate of 178.46.
Shardul Thakur – Delhi Capitals – 10.75
Thakur has a wide range of skills, including the ability to bowl in the middle overs and hold runs in the slog overs. As a result, he can contribute to his team’s breakthroughs and serve as a finisher at the bottom of the batting order.
Unsold Players 2022
Teams assembled their respective squads to the best of their abilities during the IPL auction 2022. Some of the greatest names were auctioned off, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. On the other hand, some notable names were unable to find buyers at the IPL auction.
Imran Tahir, Suresh Raina, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Aaron Finch, and Eoin Morgan were among the seasoned cricketers who left unsold at the auction despite having a wealth of experience. Suresh Raina, an IPL veteran, has 5528 runs at an average of 32.51 and a strike rate of 136.76 in 205 games in the Indian Premier League. However, even though he has a wealth of experience, he went unsold in the auction.
